Biography

Terry Nelson, CFP(R) M.S., has been in the financial planning and financial services industry since 1985 and has been a Certified Financial Planner since March of 1993.   He is a Registered Investment Advisor providing services to high net worth individuals.   As a member of the local chapter of the Financial Planning Association of Minnesota, Mr. Nelson served as a highly respected member of their Board of Directors for six years as well as serving on several committees.

 

After high school in Wisconsin, he graduated with an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement from Eau Claire Community College in 1984.  He also attended Mankato State University from 1984 to 1985 where he studied law enforcement.   In 1985 Mr. Nelson started his own business in the insurance industry as a health, annuity and life insurance professional.    Then in 1989 he began specializing in personal financial planning.  He received his CFP designation from the College for Financial Planning in 1993.  Then from 1995 to 1997, Mr. Nelson attended Metro State University, where he graduated with a Finance Major.    Mr. Nelson then received a Master of Science Degree in the area of Financial Planning from the College for Financial Planning in January 2001, and was named their most outstanding graduate in 2002.

 

In addition to his role as a Financial Advisor to clients, Mr. Nelson is currently a member of the adjunct faculty for the College for Financial Planning's Masters Degree Program, teaching Advanced Investment and Financial Planning courses.    In addition, Mr. Nelson has taught Financial Planning courses at the undergraduate level as well as teaching CFP Board Exam preparation classes for Minnesota State University.

 

Mr. Nelson is proud to have been named as a 5 STAR Financial Advisor by the Paladin Registry (a firm that rates fee only advisors).   Also, both the Mpls./St. Paul Magazine and Twin Cities Business have listed him as a FIVE STAR "Best in Client Satisfaction Wealth Manager."

 

Interests include anything with his beautiful wife and two boys.   Mr. Nelson is also a professional drummer, playing in various bands and as well as doing recording work.   Also, he has an extensive interest in science, computers and technology, for both business and as a hobby.
